Zagreb has by far the most gyms in Croatia, but they're not spread evenly: dense along Ilica, Zagrebačka and Dubrava, and along the avenues of Novi Zagreb, sparser in quiet residential streets. This guide sorts them by area so you can find one that's actually on your way. The cards below are pulled from the map — the address, logo and tags always match the database.
All gyms in the city on one map: Zagreb 158
Centre and Donji grad
If you work or study in the centre, the most convenient gyms are along Ilica, around Ban Jelačić Square, and in Donji grad between Petrinjska and Hebrangova. Most are reachable on foot or by tram; parking is expensive, so budget for a garage.
Trešnjevka and Rudeš
The western part of the city has the densest network: from Zorkovačka and Ilica towards Rudeš and Zagrebačka avenija, larger gyms and smaller studios line up one after another. A good choice if you take the tram along Ilica or come in from the west.
Maksimir and the east
Around Maksimirska and Jordanovac the gyms are a little smaller but often quieter; they're close to the park and to tram lines into the centre.
Novi Zagreb
South of the Sava, gyms line Avenija Dubrovnik, Siget and Bundek. They typically have their own car parks and roomier halls — practical if you're driving in or working in the business zones along the avenues.
Dubrava and Peščenica
The eastern part of the city, along Dubrava and Volovčica, has several larger gyms with good bus and car access.
Stenjevec, Špansko and the western edge
On the western edge of the city, gyms line Zagrebačka cesta and Samoborska; handy for residents of Špansko, Malešnica and Stenjevec, and for anyone coming in from Samobor or Zaprešić.
Getting between them
Zagreb is spread out: getting from Dubrava to Trešnjevka by tram takes more than half an hour, and longer still by car at peak times. If you train around 5pm, pick a gym on a tram line you're already using, or one with its own car park. Gyms in Novi Zagreb, Stenjevec and along the avenues have parking and are the right choice if you're driving in from Velika Gorica, Samobor, Zaprešić or Sesvete.
What are you looking for?
- Strength training. Look for spacious halls with free weights and racks; check the equipment tags entered by owners and editors on the gym's page.
- Group classes. Smaller studios in the centre and Trešnjevka run schedules with spinning, pilates or functional training; the timetable matters more than the size of the hall.
- Just starting out. Ask about an induction session. Chains with several locations let you visit any branch on one membership, which is handy if you move between work and home.
- Occasional visits. Switch on the day-pass filter; we only show a price when it's known and dated.
How to choose
- Close to work or home? In practice, the gym on your route wins. Turn on your location on the map.
- Training at night? Look for the 24/7 tag on the cards and in the map filter; we have a separate guide with the live list of 24/7 gyms across Croatia.
- Only occasionally? Use the day-pass filter; prices are only shown when known and dated.
